2014.5 BMW 5-Series 4dr Sedan. turbocharged 560hp 4.4L V8 7-speed automated manual RWD. 69000 mi. US $5500. Seal around drivers side headlight went bad. Water got inside from carwash, and leaked down into computer modules that attach and sit below the headlight.
Google "e60 hidden menu" go to test 9 and monitor electrical system voltage while you drive. Turn on lights, rear defog, AC, Max fan speed to load up the electrical system and check voltage. Perhaps your real issue is the low, rough idle. Make sure that idle speed is normal and not too low when you experience low voltage at idle.
Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and I live in Australia I just recently purchased a 07 E60 M5 with 120000ks on it. All is running fine until I went away and came back today 9 days later. Battery voltage was 12.1 volts. Was 12.9 volts when I left. Tried to start it up and received

The average voltage regulator replacement cost is between $70 and $400, depending on the car model and labor costs. A voltage regulator costs $20 to $200, and the labor costs $50 to $200. Depending on which vehicle you drive, replacing the voltage regulator can mean replacing the entire alternator or just the regulator.
So here is the fix in my situation (2011 BMW 335d with only 87k): 1. Resoldered 4x crimp connections. Two at the driver footwell and two at the passenger side footwell. These resolved 4 codes, even though those crimp connections looked good to me, no water sings at all, no oxidation.
Try a jump while attempting to start it. Next easy step is to try another key. The CAS system sometimes will not sync with the key and allow the security system to allow a start. If that doesn't work then it the trouble shooting gets tougher. Try the first two and report back.
5) The vehicle may start, but it stalls immediately. This might seem very strange, but in certain cases, the car might actually start for a brief moment and then immediately shut off. Again, this might seem like an engine or fuel pump-related problem, but it might actually be because of a CAS module that's acting up.
Battery Terminal Saftey Faulty. My son's '06 530i has the airbag and seatbelt light on as well as a warning on the computer screen that reads: "Passenger restraint system malfunction". We took it to the dealer who told us that it was the battery safety terminal and that it needed to be replaced to the tune of $750.

In this video, Specialized ECU Repair provides the top four reasons that BMW Engine Control Units (ECUs) experience faulty symptoms. The first is water damage
Normal E60 system voltage for charging a battery in good health that is over 80% charged is generally 14.1-14.3 volts. For accelerated charging in cold weather the ECM may in rare instances charge AGMs as high as 14.7V and FLA as high as 15.5V as directed by the ECM/CAS based upon IBS feedback.
This has happened to my last GT a few times…I want to say each time it happened it was raining. Other signs of a weak battery could be your windows not rolling up all the way, and you can see the window sticks out when you close the door. Easy DIY replacement. Appreciate 0.
I cleaned it up well and seems to be slowly coming back. The seal appears dry so I can only assume that it is wicking up through the sensor itself. I'm just not sure if this is the cause problem because 1) Its intermittent, 2) Mostly happens when engine is warm 3) Idle is fine, 4) Rest of the rev band is faultless.
Once you get over 14.5v (at the battery) you run the risk of boiling off electrolyte, which cannot be replenished in a AGM battery. That is why the car needs to know that it has an AGM so it doesn't overcharge the AGM. When the VR does go, you can see 16-20v which will fry the AGM and alot of other components.
Sometimes, parasitic drain exceeds what is normal, and can cause car battery drain. No Start Condition. Because of the BCM’s communications with other modules and components you may experience a no crank or no start condition. In many cases, your BCM will alert you to issues with symptoms, warning lights or both.
